Yellowstone, the First National Park

On March 1, 1872, President Grant signed a bill establishing the Yellowstone region as the United States' first national park and setting a major conservation precedent. This Library of Congress exhibit explains how a team of 34 men and seven wagons led to the decision. Maps and photographs illustrate the expedition.
