Chicago's Front Door
Starting with the French exploration, this Chicago Public Library online exhibition investigates how Lake Michigan affected the city's growth into the urban metropolis it is today. Read a history of the city's transformation as a waterfront capital, accompanied by various unique artifacts like postcards, photographs, stereographs and maps. These items can now be found in the library's Special Collections & Preservation Division, along with others related to Chicago's history.
