American Film Institute Top 100 Greatest American Movies
The American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American
movies was released in 1998, after tabulating the votes of more than 1,500 leaders in the film industry.
The list, which spans 81 years, includes five directed by Steven Spielberg, including no. 9,
Schindler's List. From musicals (The Wizard of Oz, no. 6) to dramatic epics (Gone With the Wind, no. 4)
to comedies (Annie Hall, no. 31), the list encompasses the American century in film.
