Best Hospitals
U.S. News and World Report's Best Hospitals Finder
makes it easy to find the best medical institutions by specialty, region or metropolitan area.
To recieve this designation, hospitals had to meet standards set by the
National Opinion Research Center. Criteria included:
- The hospital had
to be a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals, be affiliated with a medical school or
have at least nine out of 18 prescribed technological services.
- In individual specialties, hospitals had to admit and treat a minimum number of patients in the previous three years with sufficiently complex conditions or had to be nominated by at least one physician as among the best in that specialty.
- After meeting the above criteria, each hospital received a score made up of three parts: reputation, mortality, and factors like technology and nursing care.
