America's Best Newspapers
More than 100 American newspaper editors, representing large and
small papers from all regions of the country, cast ballots in
Columbia Journalism Review's 1999 survey of
America's Best Newspapers.
The New York Times tops the list and is "head and shoulders above everyone else,"
editors said. "Five to Watch" include the Star-Ledger (Newark) and the
Times-Picayune (New Orleans).
