| 2007 Newbery Medal Winner
The Newbery Medal honors the author making the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children, an annual award made by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC). The ALSC is a division of the American Library Association.
This year's winner is "The Higher Power of Lucky" by Susan Patron (Simon & Schuster). Patron's story follows 10-year-old Lucky Trimble from Hard Pan, in the California desert, who eavesdrops on 12-step program meetings from her hiding place.
The ALSC also named four titles as Honor Books for 2007:
- "Penny from Heaven" by Jennifer L. Holm
- "Hattie Big Sky" by Kirby Larson
- "Rules" by Cynthia Lord
