Congratulations to Multnomah County Library and How Stuff Works
LibrarySpot.com is proud to announce that the Multnomah County Library, Portland, Ore., has been selected as the 1999 Library Site of the Year and How Stuff Works, Raleigh, N.C., has been selected as the 1999 Reference Site of the Year.
"The Web is filled with hundreds of great library and reference sites, which made our task of choosing this year's winners very difficult," said Lauren Zollinger, LibrarySpot.com managing editor. "Multonomah County Library won us over with comprehensive content and How Stuff Works dazzled us with its ability to offer simple explanations for complex subjects."
LibrarySpot.com judges were impressed with Multnomah Country Library's (http://www.multnomah.lib.or.us/lib/index.html) welcoming, community feel and strong local content. Judges particularly enjoyed the site's Ask us! section and its remarkable resources for kids and teens.
Judges found How Stuff Work's (http://www.howstuffworks.com/) content current and practical, offering answers for everything from how the engine in your car works to what makes the inside of your refrigerator cold. Judges also noted a user-friendly interface and a great combination of visual, audio and text explanations.
Finalists were selected from Library and Reference Site of the Month winners and judged on quality and richness of information, credibility, and overall organization and accessibility. Judges also carefully considered the regularity of updates and contributions to students, teachers, librarians and anyone conducting research online.
