Youth Adult Library Services Association
A division of the American Library Association, the Youth Library Services Association (YALSA) serves the younger community by striving to strengthen the importance of reading and the presence of adolescents in library settings. Founded in 1957, the YALSA is known for sponsoring Teen Reading Week, but it also puts on numerous other events and programs, in addition to presenting awards and grants to librarians and authors who cater to young adults. New events include the first Young Adult Literature Symposium, which will be starting biannually in November 2008, as well as Teen Tech Week, celebrated for the first time in March 2007. On the Web site, check out book selections and awards, learn how to sign up for an online course, stay on top of news and events, view its electronic resources and find out more about the group.
